The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) Tech Lab introduced ‘Ads.txt’ (Authorized Digital Sellers) in 2017 to help advertising buyers avoid arbitrage of unauthorized inventory and prevent the selling of fake domains.
The Ads.txt file is used by publishers, who add a text file (.txt) on their web servers that lists all authorized sellers of their inventory. This helps publishers reclaim control of their media by driving more of advertiser’s spend to the domain owner through their approved sales channels. Publishers see up to 11% more revenue on Taboola after full implementation of Ads.txt.
