Taboola’s infinite scroll feed doesn’t impact a search engine’s ability to crawl, read, index or rank the elements below it.
Why?
- Google doesn’t render Taboola Feed
- Taboola is rendered on the client side: As long as the content that appears below the feed is being server-side rendered, search engines will discover the content from the original HTML file
- Taboola Feed requires user engagement to load
Google doesn’t render Taboola Feed: Due to various reasons, Google isn’t able to see the Taboola feed. See “Can Google Render Taboola’s Recommendations? For the full explanation.
Taboola is rendered on the client side: As long as page elements below the feed are served on the server’s side (on the original HTML file) search engines will be able to discover, index and rank that content on search results.
Taboola Feed requires user engagement to load: Taboola Feed is designed to continue loading recommendations for users who scroll deep into the feed. Even if search engines could fetch and render the content - which they can’t - as long as the robots.txt directive exists, search engines will only be able to render the first set of recommendations and will continue to see the rest of the page including any content in the footer.
How can we test that?
There are several tools/methods to see the that the content below the feed/infinite scroll is available to Google:
- Mobile-Friendly Test
- Google’s Cache
